It’s been a Saturday

I keep forgetting about blogging until the very last minutes of the day. So there’s what Saturday was all about:

1. Do the ridiculous amount of dishes I had in my sink for two weeks.
2. Rewatch random Rose episodes of Doctor Who.
3. Do some laundry because future mother-in-law gave me a roll of quarters AND detergent. (Best Easter gift ever.)
4. More Doctor Who and my favorite episode of Torchwood. (Countrycide, btw.)
5. Agricola!

Until tomorrow.

Friday Girls’ Day & Night

Today went nothing as planned. As planned, this Friday would have included cleaning my apartment (which resembles a 19-year-old boy’s place at the moment and, yes, I am disgusted by it myself) and grading for the technical writing course I teach. The only time-constrained activity on today’s agenda was a term project meeting with one of my professors at noon, and that went really, really well.

After that, the day became much better than anticipated because I spent the whole Friday with two of my really good friends — L & CW. Today the both sent in near-final drafts of their M.A. papers for their M.A. defenses and we wanted to celebrate. So we went to get burgers and fries for a late lunch and then played a few hours of shuffleboard. After that we said, “Hey, it’s Friday, let’s not go home early and work, no. Let’s go eat Mexican food and catch a movie!” So we did.

We saw OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, which exceeded my expectations of an action film (which have seriously sucked recently). It’s essentially a rip-off of DIE HARD but that’s a good model to follow, imo. And sure, the dialogue is real terrible and the Greek mythology metaphor is way over done, but the film got my adrenaline going and there were some really creative killing sequences.

So, you get this late post for BEDA because I was enjoying my final day for any kind of spontaneous relaxation until the semester ends and I’ve graduated. Sometimes sanity demands spontaneity.

(BEDA: April 5, 2013)

P.S. Every website today sent me this email: ONLY 6 MONTHS UNTIL YOUR (MY) WEDDING DATE! Ooh, so much more to do in 6 months. Wowza. But now, it’s like the real countdown begins. Under six months and coming fast.

another recovery day & more Doctor Who

I really do swear that I’ll blog about meaningful, interesting things at some point during BEDA but this has been both a relax week and a catch-up week. Mostly, I’m relaxing by catching up on Doctor Who. Once that’s done and I’m back to really working on #ohgradschool things, I’ll procrastinate with decent blog posts. Until then, enjoy this picture of my cat (watching Doctor Who with me).

my brain needs a jumpstart

Today was entirely unproductive. I suppose my brain needed a full day’s recovery before thinking critically or analytically about anything else, and I wasn’t entirely aware of how much I’ve been pushing myself recently preparing for my MA defense exam that took place yesterday afternoon. But today, I just never really felt awake or alive. I’ve felt like a part of me is just hibernating and recovering.

On that note, I’m leaving you a song for today. It’s been on my playlist all semester.

April 1, No Foolin’

It’s the first of April, and because it’s a month that begins with the letter ‘A’, it’s also time for B(log) E(every) D(ay) of A(pril)! I really & truly got involved with BEDA in a serious and committed way last year, and I am so excited to reprise the blogging tradition this year on Bailey is writing. It’s a challenge to blog every day of the month, especially the last month of the semester (and my last month of #ohgradschool ever! for the time being…). But last year I found that blogging every single day had me producing some interesting blog topics and I can’t wait to see what I come up with this year.

To kick off BEDA, I’m just leaving you all with this fun & happy announcement:

Today I passed my MA defense exam! so in a few short weeks I will really & truly be a Master of English.

(I’ve actually been having this recurring dream nightmare for several weeks now that my committee would call me into the room & tell me I passed my exam only to recant that statement by shouting APRIL FOOLS! Fortunately, this did not happen. I really did pass my exam.)

Until tomorrow!
